Denali Sampler - Fairbanks to Anchorage - 2008

Is your time at a premium? This tantalizing mini-tour takes you to the grand mountain that defines Alaska and the abundant wildlife that thrives in Denali National Park. With six million acres, Denali National Park & Preserve is larger than Massachusetts. Located in the heart of Alaska’s magnificent and rugged interior, the park is home to majestic Mt. McKinley, North America’s highest mountain. The Park also features glaciers, a sub-arctic ecosystem and an internationally designated biosphere preserve with moose, caribou, Dall sheep, grizzly bears and wolves. The matchless vistas showcased aboard our luxurious McKinley Explorer and the kind of service that goes above and beyond to enhance your adventure.

Detailed day by day information
Day 1: Fairbanks
We'll pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your Fairbanks hotel. For your enjoyment, there are a host of optional activities that spotlight nearby "must-see" attractions like Gold Dredge No. 8, where you can experience the gold mining legacy of Fairbanks; or enjoy a leisurely cruise down the Chena and Tanana Rivers aboard the historic sternwheeler "Discovery."

Day 2: Fairbanks - Denali
Journey to Denali National Park on an incomparable sightseeing experience aboard the McKinley Explorer railcars. Luxurious glass-domed observation cars carry you along the historic Alaska Railroad. Take in the wide-open scenery as you travel, relaxing with a cocktail in the observation lounge or enjoying sumptuous dining service for breakfast or lunch.

By early afternoon, the train arrives in stunning Denali National Park. Here, you can choose from a wide range of optional activities like river rafting, helicopter flightseeing, or horseback riding in Alaska’s most popular destination.

For an entertaining way to top off the day, enjoy the optional Cabin Nite Dinner Theater.

Day 3: Denali - Anchorage

Take time in the morning to choose from one of many complimentary park-sponsored activities and optional Denali tours including guided hikes plus white-water rafting, fixed-wing flightseeing and horseback riding.

Later, re-board the McKinley Explorer rail cars and travel to Alaska's largest city, Anchorage. Your tour ends with a transfer to a downtown hotel (accommodations not included). Anchorage provides many opportunities for entertainment. It is home to Alaska's largest selection of quality Alaska Native art and souvenirs such as finely crafted ivory, Native masks, and carved jade. In addition, Anchorage has access to some of the freshest seafood in the world, which Alaska chefs offer up in a variety of mouth-watering creations. From plump, cold-water Kachemak Bay oysters, to Alaska king crab, fresh-caught halibut, and wild Alaska salmon – the staple of Alaska seafood, Anchorage has it all! And no sales tax!

This tour includes: 2 nights hotel accommodations. Arrival airport transfer only. This service does not include your final hotel accommodation. This tour is not escorted and does not include meals. This service does not include home-city air.
