Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad
The Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad will be hosting a photo freight featuring the Climax #10 and a mixed freight train from Mineral to Morton and back and will be an all day event. The passenger train, featuring the Alco #17 2-8-2T and/or the NP #7012A and newly repainted passenger cars based on the Milwaukee Road paint scheme will shuttle passengers between the run-by locations.

Mount Rainier Fall Photo Special: Route

Route Information - Feburary 21, 2008 - Train will depart at 10am.
Welcome to join us early in the morning. The trains will depart Mineral Yard at 10am. If you are running late, please call and we will arrange to pick you up at the crossing in Mineral. This is the only place we will pick up late passengers. If you can not make this location, you will unfortunately be left behind - We do have a schedule to maintain for this trip.

The train departs from our Mineral, WA restoration facility on a run past Divide, WA to the largest trestle on the line. This is an 18 mile round trip, and takes approximately 2 to 2-1/2 hours.

During the ride you'll travel through forests and past the historic logging town of Mineral. You'll cross several small trestles over mountain streams, a large trestle over the Tilton River, and the highlight of the trip, a huge curved wooden trestle near milepost 59. At Divide you'll have a view of Storm King Mountain. The engine will move to the other end of the train, then continue the trip to the big trestle.

This is a 30 mile round trip lasting about 4 hours. The train will cover the same route as the trestle run, and continue on to Morton. This route is in the forest for much of the trip. Featuring steep grades and sharp curves, the locomotives work even harder on this trip, with a long climb up to Divide on the way back from Morton.

One of the highlights of this trip is the tall wooden trestle south of Divide. There are two large curved trestles on the route, as well as several other bridges. Be sure to bring your camera!

Depending on the amount of people, we may split the run-bys into 2 sections. This will make things a lot more manageable and less people another person's shot.

There may be a tour of Morton Depot and the Mineral Shops that will be an extra cost. There has been no official decision on this at this time.

Information on the railroad and phone contact for booking can be found at www.mrsr.com. Online booking and ongoing trip information to be available soon.
