Great Argentinian Rail Adventure
16 days / 15 nights

Comprising almost the entire southern half of South America, Argentina is the world's eighth largest country, covering an area of 2.8 million square km. Argentina possesses some of the world's tallest mountains, expansive deserts, and impressive waterfalls, with the diversity of the land ranging from wild, remote areas in southern Patagonia to the bustling metropolis of Buenos Aires in the north.
Itinerary

Friday, October 26th (D)
Independent arrivals to Buenos Aires. Afternoon city tour. Welcome dinner at Buenos Aires 5 star Hotel.

During the city tour we will vist some of the big passenger train stations and photograph some of the most colorful trains in Argentina. For the ALCO fan, Argentina is a paradise.

Saturday, October 27th (B/L)
Morning Flight Buenos Aires to Bariloche. Bus transfer to Hotel in Bariloche. Afternoon free to explore the colorful resort of Bariloche in the Andes.

Sunday, October 28th (B/L)
Steam Charter on Tren Historico Bariloche out into the Patagonia and return . Overnight: Bariloche.

Monday, October 29th (B/L)
Morning departure one way Diesel Charter Bariloche to Ing. Jaccobaci. Overnight: Ing. Jacobacci.

Tuesday, October 30th (B/L/D)
07:30 AM departure steam charter on the narrow gauge "Patagonia Express" Ing. Jaccobaci to El Maiten. Overnight in El Bolson.

Wednesday, October 31st (B/L)
0730 El Bolson Departure. 0900 departure on our steam charter El Maiten to Esquel. Before departing El Maiten we visit the steam workshops. Overnight in Esquel.

Thursday, November 1st (B/L)
0800 Departure Esquel Hotel. 0900 steam charter Esquel to El Maiten. Optional Tour: sightseeing bus to visit Los Alerces National. Park Overnight in Bariloche

Friday, November 2nd (B/L/D)
Morning at leisure. PM flight Bariloche to El Calafate near the bottom of South America. (1415/1600) Overnight in El Calafate.

Saturday, November 3rd (B/L/D)
Full day sightseeing excursion to Perito Moreno Glaciers. These glaciers are considered the most beautiful and active in the entire world. Much more than any glacier in Alaska! Overnight in El Calafate.

Sunday, November 4th (B/L/D)
El Calafate to Rio Gallegos (Bus) Overnight in Rio Gallegos.

Monday, November 5th (B/L)
Steam Charter using one of the famous Rio Turbio 2-10-2's on 750 mm/2ft. 5 ½ in narrow gauge Rio Turbio Coal Railroad Rio Gallegos to Rio Turbio. Overnight Puerto Natales, Chile.

Tuesday, November 6th (B/L)
All day sightseeing tour to Chile's Torres del Paine national park. Overnight in Puerto Natales.

Wednesday, November 7th (B/L)
Steam Charter with a 2-10-2 on Rio Turbio Coal Railroad from Rio Turbio to Rio Gallegos. Fly Rio Gallegos/Ushuaia. (1914/2009) Overnight in Ushuaia, Argentina.

Thursday, November 8th (B/L)
Full day steam charter using two different engines including the only Garratt in operation in South America on the Tren del Fin del Mundo (Train at the end of the World) on the 760 cm (30 inch) gauge Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino into spectacular Tierra del Fuego National Park. This is the most southern railroad in the world. Overnight in Ushuaia.

Friday, November 9th (B/L)
Fly Ushuaia/Buenos Aires. (1723/2043) We will have plenty of time to go trackside on the narrow gauge Ferrocarril Austral Fueguino for some great steam action photography before our flight back to Buenos Aires.

Saturday, November 10th
Buenos Aires: independent departures/new arrivals

Tour includes: 33 meals - Fully Escorted - 15 nights lodging - Trackside time for photos - Sightseeing per the itinerary - All national park entrance fees - All Domestic flights within Argentina - 9 charter trains using steam and diesel.

Saturday, November 10th (B/L)
8:00 AM Ferry to Montevideo Uruguay. Sightseeing tour and railroad shops in Montevideo. This railroad is still operating some rare American built Brill Railcars and classic Alco diesels. Overnight Montevideo. The railroads of Uruguay has a fantastic collection of motive power and rolling stock including power from: Alco-General Electric-Alsthom-Ganz- Brill & more!

Sunday, November 11th (B/L)
Steam Charter on Uruguayan railroad system. Overnight in Montevideo.

Monday, November 12th (B/L)
Ferry to Buenos Aires. Overnight in Buenos Aires.

Tuesday, November 13th (L)
1050 hrs Departure on El Gran Capitan (La Croze/Posadas) Overnight on the train in some of the only sleepers in operation in Argentina.

Wednesday, November 14th (L/D)
1250 hrs arrival in Posadas. Lineside wood fired steam on FCPCAL in Encarnacion, Paraguay. Overnight in Julio Cesar near Encarnacion.

Thursday, November 15th (B/L)
Lineside steam train FCPCAL in Encarnacion, Paraguay and special photo Charter with run-bys. Transfer to Iguazu Falls by motorcoach. Overnight lodging next to the falls with many trails leading from the hotel.

Friday, November 16th (B)
Morning at leisure to explore the falls on the many hiking trails leading right from our hotel. After flight to Buenos Aires. 1615/1805 . Overnight in Buenos Aires.

Saturday, November 17th (B)
Independent departures.

Tour includes: 13 meals - Fully escorted - 6 nights lodging - 2 steam charter trains - Sightseeing per the itinerary - 1 domestic flight in Argentina - All national park enterance fees - Ferry ticket to and from Uruguay - 1 night on the train in sleeper class.
