Vancouver to Kamloops
Travel aboard the Rocky Mountaineer® from coastal Vancouver to Kamloops in the heart of British Columbia. During the journey you will experience dramatic changes in scenery, from the rich green fields of the Fraser River Valley, to forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the rugged peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the arid environment of the interior. Highlights include the fast-moving waters of Hell's Gate in the Fraser Canyon, and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River. Your day draws to a close as the Rocky Mountaineer® travels along the shores of Kamloops Lake and into your overnight destination of Kamloops.
Kamloops to Banff
Your journey eastward continues aboard the Rocky Mountaineer toward the Canadian Rockies and the mountain resort town of Banff. First, you will travel through vast ranchlands to Shuswap Lake before passing Craigellachie, where the "last spike" was driven, completing the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885. Beyond Craigellachie is Rogers Pass with tunnels, glistening glaciers, and snow capped mountains. Before crossing over the Continental Divide into Banff National Park, travel through the unique Spiral Tunnels in Yoho National Park, a remarkable engineering achievement. As we travel through the five mountain regions, the magic of the Canadian winter abounds! Your rail journey concludes in Banff, and further transportation to Calgary is by motorcoach. A visit to Calgary Tower is included this evening or tomorrow morning, where you can enjoy city views and the Canadian Rockies in the distance. Overnight in Calgary.
