Bend Today’s excursion visits the picturesque Danube Bend. Travelling through the forested hills overlooking the river provides a contrast to the city. See Hungary’s largest Basilica in Esztergom, enjoy lunch near Visegrd’s medieval castle high above the Danube and wander through the artist quarter in Szentendre.
Budapest
Today you are free to explore Budapest’s broad avenues, leafy parks and elaborate bathhouses or to delve into the rich cultural heritage of the city.
Budapest and Košice
Transfer to Budapest Nyugati station.
Danube Express Journey begins The Danube Express awaits you for a mid-morning departure. After a champagne reception in the Royal Waiting Room, you are shown to your accommodation. Sit back and make yourself comfortable in the lounge car as you travel north towards Slovakia across the Great Hungarian Plain and alongside the Matra Mountains. Lunch is served before arrival in Košice. There is a guided walk through Slovakia’s second city, the highlight being the enchanting Singing Fountain. Dine as the train continues on past the Tatra Mountains en route to the Czech Republic.
Prague and Carlsbad
Morning sees arrival in the fabulous city of Prague, known as the “City of a Hundred Spires”. Its medieval centre, cobbled streets and vibrant contemporary culture are sure to captivate. A guided tour of the highlights includes St Vitus’ Cathedral, Hradcany Castle and the Charles Bridge. During lunch, the Danube Express heads west to the Bohemian city of Carlsbad. Dresden and Berlin
Wake as the train travels through the spectacular Elbe Gorge past Knigstein Fortress and the Bastei. Arriving in Dresden, a tour explores this restored city, including the Zwinger Palace and Semper Opera House. Pride of place is given to the Frauenkirche, finished only recently. Lunch is on board and late afternoon, the Danube Express arrives at Berlin Ost.

After breakfast, board the InterCity-Express to Cologne and continue to Brussels to join the Eurostar. Dinner and drinks are served en route to London St Pancras, arriving early evening.
