Day 1: Seward - Anchorage
After arriving in the coastal town of Seward, you’ll be transferred to your dayboat for your cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park. Cruise along the rocky, wild shorelines rich with bird life, graceful waterfalls and wildlife, like sea lions, bears and mountain goats. In the evening, travel on the Alaska Railroad to Alaska’s largest and most metropolitan city, Anchorage. Overnight in Anchorage.
Day 2: Anchorage - Talkeetna
Board the McKinley Explorer in the morning and travel to Talkeetna. This small distinctive community of less then 500 is often said to be the inspiration behind the television series “Northern Exposure.” The town is also the main staging area for climbers waiting to start their Mt. McKinley ascents, and the Talkeetna area is probably the best location on the highway or rail system to view “the Mountain.” There is time in the afternoon and evening for optional tours of the Talkeetna area, including flightseeing and river rafting. Overnight in Talkeetna.
Day 3: Talkeetna - Denali
Midday, continue your travels to Denali National Park aboard the luxurious glass-domed railcars of the McKinley Explorer. With six million acres, Denali National Park & Preserve is larger than Massachusetts. Located in the heart of Alaska’s magnificent and rugged interior, the park is home to majestic Mt. McKinley, North America’s highest mountain. The Park also features glaciers, a sub-arctic ecosystem and an internationally designated biosphere preserve with moose, caribou, Dall sheep, grizzly bears and wolves. Upon arrival in Denali, you will have many opportunities to explore the area just the way you want to, but we recommend helicopter flightseeing or the Cabin Nite Dinner Theater. Overnight in Denali.
Day 4: Denali - Anchorage
Join us on the Natural History Tour and learn about this fascinating area. The tour offers a quick taste of some of the six million acres in Denali National Park. Private vehicles can navigate the first 14 miles into Denali, and this guided bus tour will continue just past that point to mile 19. It may be enough of a glimpse to convince you how pristine and special this place really is. In the afternoon, you’ll travel south along the Park’s Highway via deluxe motor coach to Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage. This cosmopolitan city is home to Alaska's largest selection of quality Alaska Native art and souvenirs such as finely crafted ivory, Native masks, and carved jade. In addition, Anchorage has access to some of the freshest seafood in the world, which Alaska chefs offer up in a variety of mouth-watering creations. From plump, cold-water Kachemak Bay oysters, to Alaska king crab, fresh-caught halibut, and wild Alaska salmon – the staple of Alaska seafood, Anchorage has it all! And no sales tax! Overnight in Anchorage.
