McKinley, featuring glaciers, a sub-arctic ecosystem and an internationally designated biosphere preserve with moose, caribou, Dall sheep, grizzly bears and wolves; the small coastal town of Seward, known for its scenic views, numerous visitor attractions, and as the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park; and end in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest and most cosmopolitan city with many opportunities to shop, visit museums, and dine on Alaska’s finest seafood.
Itinerary Detailed day by day information
Day 1: Fairbanks
Arrange travel to Alaska’s “Golden Heart” city, Fairbanks, on your own. Fly north from Fairbanks on a journey above the Arctic Circle. Land at a wilderness outpost and learn the story of Alaska’s Arctic. Overnight in Fairbanks.
Day 2 - 3: Fairbanks to Denali
Journey by train from Fairbanks to Denali in the morning, then travel by bus to the Denali Backcountry Lodge, 95 miles from the park entrance. Enjoy stunning landscapes and wildlife sightings. Stay at Denali Backcountry Lodge for two nights. Hike, fish, pan for gold, relax and enjoy the solitude of the Denali backcountry.
Day 4: Denali to Talkeetna
Travel the Park road to the Denali depot and then take the train from Denali to Talkeetna. In the distance, magnificent Mt. McKinley rises 20,320 feet out of the valley floor, and your lodgings provide unparalleled views of the mighty mountain. Overnight at Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge.
Day 5 - 6: Talkeetna
Fly to a remote backcountry lodge in the morning. Options include Riversong Lodge (May – Sept.) along the Yentna River or Tordrillo Mountain Lodge (July 6 – Sept. 15) at the headwaters of the Talachulitna River. Both properties are accessible only by floatplane and feature comfortable accommodations, award-winning cuisine, and fantastic fishing.
Day 7: Talkeetna to Anchorage
Fly by floatplane to Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage. Tour the downtown art galleries, visit the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the Alaska Native Heritage Center or walk the Coastal Trail. Overnight in Anchorage.
Day 8: Anchorage to Seward
Travel by train to Seward aboard the Coastal Classic Train. Upon arrival in coastal town of Seward, take a cruise to the remote escape of Fox Island and overnight in your private seaside cabin. Refresh your spirit and relax at this oceanside wilderness lodge.
Day 9: Seward
Cruise to Kenai Fjords National Park, where you will find abundant marine life; the park is a must for those interested in glacier viewing, whale watching, Alaska bird watching, and wildlife viewing. Return to Seward at in the evening. Overnight at the Seward Windsong Lodge.
Day 10 - 11: Seward to Cooper Landing
Your Alaska Wildland Adventures representative will meet you in the morning and drive you to the Kenai Riverside Lodge in Cooper Landing. Spend two nights along the Kenai River. Relax at the lodge, enjoy rafting and day hikes, or upgrade your tour package and tack on a fishing trip. Enjoy the wood-fired sauna and take in the breathtaking Kenai River. Meals are included at the lodge.
Day 12: Cooper Landing - Seward - Anchorage
Travel by coach to back to Anchorage and arrange for your own transportation home.
