Iditarod Winter Tour

Alaska's pristine beauty is limitless during the summer months, but for many Alaskans the real magic of Alaska can only be found during the winter. The Iditarod is the premiere event of the festive winter season. This historic race brings together Iditarod veterans and newcomers, pitting them in a grueling 1,000-mile challenge. The "Musher's Ball" and send-off in downtown Anchorage are celebrations without compare in the lower 48. Come be part of the excitement on this one of a kind tour.

February 27: Anchorage
Upon arrival in beautiful Anchorage, we'll transport you to your hotel, then spend your first evening exploring the largest city in Alaska or just relaxing. A modern city surrounded by spectacular wilderness with adventures just steps from the hotel, Anchorage has plenty to offer. Home to Alaska's largest selection of quality Alaska Native art and souvenirs such as finely crafted ivory, Native masks, and carved jade, you’ll find abundant opportunities to shop; and with access to some of the freshest seafood in the world, you can enjoy plump, cold-water Kachemak Bay oysters, Alaska king crab, fresh-caught halibut, or wild Alaska salmon – the staple of Alaska seafood, for your evening meal. Anchorage has it all! And no sales tax! Overnight in Anchorage.

February 28: Anchorage
Tour Anchorage, including stops at the Anchorage Zoo, Anchorage Museum and Lake Hood; the world's largest and busiest floatplane base, or spend the day shopping and visiting local galleries. In the evening, attend the Iditarod Gala known as the "Musher's Ball." Overnight in Anchorage.

February 29th: Anchorage - Alyeska - Anchorage
Relax on a scenic motor coach drive from Anchorage to the world-renowned Alyeska Ski Resort. Admire the scenery as the scenic Seward Highway curves around Turnagain Arm, showcasing the natural beauty of south central Alaska between Anchorage and Seward. From jagged peaks and alpine meadows to breathtaking fjords and crystal lakes, find a concentrated series of diverse landscapes and experiences. See sights such as Beluga whales or dog teams. You'll enjoy stops at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and at the Portage Glacier Begich-Boggs Visitor Center to browse the informative glaciology exhibits. Return to Anchorage for your overnight stay.

March 1: Anchorage
Attend the ceremonial start of the Iditarod in downtown Anchorage and cheer on your favorite team! Overnight in Anchorage.

March 2: Anchorage
Travel by motor coach from Anchorage to Wasilla for the official start of the Iditarod sled dog race! The Iditarod is a race over 1150 miles of the roughest, most beautiful terrain Mother Nature has to offer. She throws jagged mountain ranges, frozen rivers, dense forests, desolate tundra, and miles of windswept coast at the mushers and their dog teams. Add to that temperatures far below zero, winds that can cause a complete loss of visibility, the hazards of overflow, long hours of darkness and treacherous climbs and side hills, and you have the Iditarod. It is a race that could only take place in Alaska. Overnight in Anchorage.

March 3: Anchorage
Transfer to the Anchorage airport (flights must be after 11am), where we'll say goodbye.

This Tour Includes: 5 nights hotel accommodations, Airport Transfers, Anchorage City Tour, Tour of the Iditarod Museum, This tour is not escorted and does not include meals, Tour price does not include airfare.
