Rio Grande Cumbres Steam Spectacular

This is our 10th annual railfan event on the 3-foot gauge Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad running in the Rockies of New Mexico and Colorado. This line was once part of the Rio Grande's vast narrow gauge empire. 64 spectacular miles between Chama, New Mexico and Antonito, Colorado are now operated for tourist and railfans. Our private charter train will travel into the high country of the San Juan range to Cumbres Pass, at 10,015 feet through the rugged Toltec Gorge, on steep 4% grades, including high bridges, tunnels and many loops. We will use the ex-DRGW Baldwin 2-8-2's for motive power. Our photo freight will have various authentic Rio Grande freight cars. Everything including the steam locomotive will be lettered for the "Rio Grande". Lodging in Antonito, Colorado and three box lunches/drinks are included in the ticket.

Monday September 29: (L)
Our special charter departs the Chama, New Mexico depot at 8:00am and runs to Antonito, Colorado with plenty of photo run-bys at remote locations. Lodging in Antonito included at the Narrow Gauge Inn. This hotel only has 33 rooms so once they are all assigned the balance of our group will be sent to Alamosa to the Best Western. Book now and request you want your lodging at the Narrow Gauge Inn.

Tuesday September 30: (L)
We reboard our special photo charter and head back to Chama, again many photo run-bys will be preformed.

Wednesday October 1: (L)
We have a new charter planned for today...This will be a Cumbres Turn with a photo freight and two steam locomotives. Our charter photo freight will run Chama to Cumbres Summit up the steep grade. After turning on the wye at Cumbres we drift downhill back to Chama. Arrival back in Chama is planned for 4:00pm.
