Sunday April 27: (L-D)
We depart from the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Resort (The convention hotel in Chandler near Phoenix) by charter motor coaches at 7:00am for the journey north to Jerome Ghost Town and Jerome State Park Museum. This old mining and railroad town is racked full of railroad history and the museum has some wonderful displays of the mining industry and the railroads that served the area. We then travel to nearby Clarkdale to board the Verde Canyon Railroad excursion train for the run into remote Verde Canyon and return. This is a four hour train trip. Our train returns to Clarkdale at 4:00pm and we then go to Sedona for lodging. After dinner the rest of the day and evening on your own to explore colorful Sedona.
Monday April 28: (B)
We depart Sedona for a scenic ride through colorful Oak Creek Canyon. There will be enough time to make a couple of photo stops. We then continue on to Williams to board the Grand Canyon Railway's 10:30am departure for the south rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The excursion train unloads at the former Santa Fe station just a few hundred feet from the canyon rim. You will have the balance of the day to explore the many trails and take in the spectacular views and scenic overlooks into Grand Canyon. In the afternoon when ever you are ready to check-in we will have your hotel keys waiting for you. Our hotel is right on the South Rim. Enjoy a leisure dinner and a colorful sunset. Spending the night at the South Rim is a rare once in a lifttime opportunity that very few ever get to experience.
Tuesday April 29: (D)
You will have most of the day to fully enjoy this awesome national park. For the early risers the sunrises are just as spectacular as the sunsets. There is so much to see and do here. Late afternoon we reboard the Grand Canyon Railway's excursion train for the journey back to Williams. Once back in Williams, which is on the historic "Route 66" highway , we will have dinner before boarding our charter motorcoaches for the return to the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Hotel and the next day the start of the 24th Annual Garden Railway Convention.
