Itinerary
Detailed day by day information
Chihuahua
The trip begins when you arrive in Chihuahua, are picked up by our English speaking guide, and transferred to the Hotel San Francisco or similar. (overnight) Transfer from El Paso available. (Buses leave 8:30am, 10:30am, 3:00pm, 6:00pm)

Chihuahua to Creel
The adventure begins in earnest as you board the "ChePe" first class train at 6:00 am, bound for Creel. The scenery gradually changes from a dry and relatively flat desert landscape to that of scenic canyons and mountains as the train climbs from an elevation of 4,600 feet to more than 7,000 before arriving Creel. Upon arriving, you will be transferred hotel Best Western. Go on a local tour of the city, Mission, Indian Caves and the Lake Area before checking into your hotel. Creel is the tourism center of the region, with optional trips to the famous Cusarare waterfall, Basihuare Canyon and Mission, La Bufa Canyon, Recohuata Thermal Springs, and the highly recommended two-day extension to Batopilas - a thrilling journey to the bottom of the canyon.

Creel
Today you will have time in the afternoon to further explore Creel on your own. Creel is the shopping and trading center for the region offering everything from hand made musical instruments to pottery and jewelry.

Note: If you are interested in extending your already magnificent journey by traveling to canyon floor please click here for information about the Batopilas Extension.

Creel to Divisadero
After breakfast you have time to do some shopping and looking around before catching the 11:35 am train to Divisadero. Upon arriving in Divisadero, transfer to the famous Mansion Tarahumara Hotel. The lodge is situated near the rim of the mighty Urique Canyon, providing wonderful views for miles. Amenities include an indoor pool, hot tub and dining room. Optional side trips include canyon tours, horseback riding, jeep tours and helicopter rides. We recommend upgrading to the Posada Mirador Hotel, which is situated on the rim of the canyon. (Dinner)

Divisadero to Bahuichivo/ Cerocahui
After lunch, re-board the ChePe for a short but extremely scenic train ride to Bahuichivo, the jumping off spot for passengers heading to Cerocahui - the most beautiful mountain village in Mexico. Spend two fabulous nights near Cerocahui at the Hotel Paraiso del Oso, nestled next to towering rock columns and a clear mountain stream - great for a refreshing afternoon swim. You may also upgrade to the Posada Mision hotel which is located in the town of Cerocahui, across the street from a historic church and town square. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Cerocahui
After breakfast, take a breathtaking bus tour of the region. After lunch you are free to explore the area on your own or participate in one of the many exciting activities offered by the hotel at a modest fee. Our recommendation is a good book and a dip in the stream. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)

Cerocahui to Los Mochis
Following breakfast, go on a morning tour of Cerocahui and the Gallego mountain. After lunch, re-board the ChePe for the incredible trip down the mountain. This portion of the trip is undoubtedly the most scenic, as you descend nearly 5300 feet through rugged mountains and deep canyons. Keep your camera handy - you will need it. You are scheduled to arrive in Los Mochis at 10:25 pm. You will be transferred to the Plaza Inn upon arrival. (Breakfast & Lunch)

Los Mochis
The tour comes to a close as you are transferred to the airport for your trip home.
