The Southern Spirit is a new luxurious train service that will operate each summer season from November 2008 on a variety of outback Australian train routes. The experience is something new and quite unique in Australia; epic transcontinental rail cruising combined with a suite of deluxe excursions and once-in-a-lifetime events along the way.
Choose to travel aboard The Southern Spirit in the prestigious new Platinum Service in a spacious and contemporary designed double or twin cabin. Oversized panoramic windows allow views from both sides of the carriage, whilst a coffee table and two plush ottomans are perfect for entertaining like-minded travellers. With full ensuite facilities and levels of service that will leave you feeling pampered and relaxed, Platinum Service is the world’s new standard for luxury rail travel.

A typical rail cruise begins with a special welcome function, from wining and dining at Fort Denison on Sydney Harbour, to a champagne brunch overlooking the breathtaking panorama of Perth and the Swan River.
Other fabulous events occur throughout the cruises, such as a view of the Australia Day fireworks from the Altitude restaurant on the 36th floor of the five-star Shangri-La Sydney Hotel, or the Coffs Harbour Jetty, yours for the night, for a magnificent seafood dinner on the beautiful harbour.
The Southern Spirit’s inaugural journey will be the rail adventure of a lifetime. The journey departs Darwin on 25 November 2008 bound for Sydney on a 13 day/12 night rail cruise across the heart of Australia. It will travel through the Red Centre to the scenic south-east corner, with stopovers in Katherine, Alice Springs, Coober Pedy, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Moss Vale.
There are eight rail cruises in the Southern Spirit season running from November 2008 until 27 February 2009.
