Pre Cruise - Option #4 (ending in Seward)
7 days / 6 nights

If you're the type who wants it all, don't settle for anything less than this complete vacation through south-central Alaska starting in Fairbanks, Alaska's "Golden Heart" city, only 200 miles south of the Arctic Circle. With additional Holland America adventures and optional excursions throughout your trip, your time in Alaska will be time well spent.
Itinerary
Detailed day by day information
Day 1: Fairbanks
After your arrival, we'll transfer you to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is at your leisure. For your enjoyment, there are a host of optional activities that spotlight nearby "must-see" attractions like a leisurely cruise down the Chena and Tanana Rivers aboard the historic sternwheeler "Discovery."

Day 2: Fairbanks
This morning enjoy a tour of this gold-rush town, including stops at the Alaska Pipeline interpretive center, and Gold Dredge No. 8, the only gold dredge in the area open to the public. Here you'll learn about how millions of ounces of gold were taken from the frozen ground and learn to pan for gold yourself! A hearty miner's stew lunch is included before returning to your hotel. This afternoon, you'll have time for optional activities.

Day 3: Fairbanks - Denali
This morning, board the McKinley Explorer domed railcars for a stunning journey to Denali. With six million acres, Denali National Park & Preserve is larger than Massachusetts. Located in the heart of Alaska’s magnificent and rugged interior, the park is home to majestic Mt. McKinley, North America’s highest mountain. The Park also features glaciers, a sub-arctic ecosystem and an internationally designated biosphere preserve with moose, caribou, Dall sheep, grizzly bears and wolves. This afternoon, get a deeper understanding of one of North America's most remarkable national parks on the Natural History Tour. You'll marvel at Denali's awesome beauty, and hear colorful stories about the area's cultural and geological history.

Day 4: Denali - Talkeetna
Continue your journey today with a trip aboard the McKinley Explorer as you travel to Talkeetna. This small distinctive community of less then 500 is often said to be the inspiration behind the television series “Northern Exposure.” The town is also the main staging area for climbers waiting to start their Mt. McKinley ascents, and the Talkeetna area is probably the best location on the highway or rail system to view “the Mountain”.

Day 5: Talkeetna - Anchorage
The morning is free for optional tours, and then it's time to re-board the McKinley Explorer for your tour to Anchorage, Alaska's largest city. A modern city surrounded by spectacular wilderness adventures, Anchorage has plenty to offer. Home to Alaska's largest selection of quality Alaska Native art and souvenirs such as finely crafted ivory, Native masks, and carved jade, you’ll find abundant opportunities to shop; and with access to some of the freshest seafood in the world, you can enjoy plump, cold-water Kachemak Bay oysters, Alaska king crab, fresh-caught halibut, or wild Alaska salmon – the staple of Alaska seafood, for your evening meal. Anchorage has it all! And no sales tax!

Day 6: Anchorage - Seward
This morning, enjoy a sightseeing tour that highlights points of interest in Anchorage. You'll also enjoy a stop at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, an exciting place where all people can come to expand their understanding of Alaska's first people. This afternoon, travel to the port city of Seward. Situated at the head of Resurrection Bay on the Kenai Peninsula, Seward is one of Alaska’s oldest and most scenic communities. Known as the “Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park,” Seward is a picturesque town located 126 miles south of Anchorage. The evening is at your leisure.

Day 7: Seward
This morning enjoy a memorable cruise of Kenai Fjords National Park. Cruise along the rocky, wild shorelines rich with bird life, graceful waterfalls and wildlife, like sea lions, bears and mountain goats. Be sure to bring your camera and plenty of film! At the conclusion of your tour, transfer to your cruise ship for the next part of your Alaska vacation.

This Tour Includes: 6 nights hotel accommodations, Ship and airport transfers, Discover the Gold Tour, Anchorage Highlights Tour, Kenai Fjords Cruise
