Day 1: Anchorage
Arrive in Anchorage, Alaska's largest and most cosmopolitan city, and we'll transfer you to your downtown hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore. Anchorage provides many opportunities for entertainment. It is home to Alaska's largest selection of quality Alaska Native art and souvenirs such as finely crafted ivory, Native masks, and carved jade. In addition, Anchorage has access to some of the freshest seafood in the world, which Alaska chefs offer up in a variety of mouth-watering creations. From plump, cold-water Kachemak Bay oysters, to Alaska king crab, fresh-caught halibut, and wild Alaska salmon – the staple of Alaska seafood, Anchorage has it all! And no sales tax!
Day 2: Anchorage - Denali
This morning you'll board a deluxe motorcoach for your scenic drive to Denali National Park. With six million acres, Denali National Park & Preserve is larger than Massachusetts. Located in the heart of Alaska’s magnificent and rugged interior, the park is home to majestic Mt. McKinley, North America’s highest mountain. The Park also features glaciers, a sub-arctic ecosystem and an internationally designated biosphere preserve with moose, caribou, Dall sheep, grizzly bears and wolves. After checking in to your hotel, join us on a Natural History Tour of Denali National Park.
Day 3: Denali - Talkeetna
There's time this morning for optional tours, or to just enjoy the spectacular views from your hotel. Then, board the McKinley Explorer glass-domed railcars for your journey to Talkeetna, one of the most eclectic frontier towns in Alaska. The afternoon is free for your own explorations of this fascinating part of the Great Land. This small distinctive community of less then 500 is often said to be the inspiration behind the television series “Northern Exposure”. The town is also the main staging area for climbers waiting to start their Mt. McKinley ascents, and the Talkeetna area is probably the best location on the highway or rail system to view “the Mountain”.
Day 4: Talkeetna - Anchorage
Take time this morning for optional tours; this afternoon you'll re-board the McKinley Explorer for your continuing journey south back to Alaska's largest city, Anchorage.
Day 5: Anchorage - Seward
This morning you'll board the Alaska Railroad railcars for your trip to Seward. Upon arrival, board your dayboat for an unforgettable cruise through the Kenai Fjords National Park. Kenai Fjords National Park has abundant marine life and is a must for those interested in glacier viewing, whale watching, Alaska bird watching, and wildlife viewing. Be sure to bring your camera and loads of film! At the conclusion of your tour, transfer to your cruise ship for the next part of your Alaska adventure.
