Board your train at 9am and relax as the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad treks to 9,382 feet at the top of old La Veta Pass and then on down to the quaint hidden town of La Veta. Alamosa to Canon City, Colorado
Check out of your hotel early this morning and take yourself on a scenic drive past the Great Sand Dunes National Monument en route to Canon City (estimated travel time: 2.5 hours). Upon arrival in Canon City, make your way to historic Santa Fe depot, right behind the Royal Gorge Regional Welcome Center and the Dinosaur Depot Museum. The train departs at 3:30 pm taking you on a 24-mile journey through the 1,000 foot deep Royal Gorge, alongside the raging Arkansas River. Your total ride is 2 hours roundtrip, and there are many upgraded seating options available. Upon the return of the train, check into your hotel (Quality Inn). Overnight in Canon City.
